LV substation for soft drink manufacturer

U-shaped 2000A Switchboard

Due to an increase in production space one of the largest American soft drink manufacturers based in south-east London, turned to CUBIC’s partner Burnell Switchgear to design and install a new LV substation.

The 2000A u-shaped switchboard incorporated cable connection points to two new 1250kVA transformers with restricted earth fault protection and built-in battery supply sections to maintain trip signals and power to communication systems in the event of power loss. Switchboard controls were also connected to stand-alone transformer’s winding temperature control panels, MV isolators and locally fitted emergency power-off buttons to monitor all required trip signals.

The switchboard utilises S2000HD main busbar system with perforated clear plastic covers fitted behind every busbar access cover to allow thermal imaging inspection. Also, Form 4 Type 6 plastic connection boxes were fitted to allow inspection of the outgoing connections and provide higher level of protection for working on switchboard in the future. All outgoing devices were connected to busbar risers using appropriately rated Cu-flex. Main incoming and bus coupler ACBs were coppered to centrally positioned S2000 risers using our in-house copper bending and punching machinery.
