Long time CUBIC Partner Pro-Automatic together with GSS Nødstrøm, was tasked with delivering a reliable 24/7/365 solution for one of Cibicom’s Tier 3 datacenters. The tender was a full solution that combined switchboards and generator unit, originally won by GSS Nødstrøm, but developed and built in close collaboration with Pro-Automatic throughout the full project.
The project objective was to deliver 3 switchboards total, with 2 (2000A) large distribution boards with UPS power supply and generator backup and 1 smaller distribution board – all within a very optimistic time scope of only 3 months from site access to first operation. The final delivery included full installation at the Cibicom site.
The desired solution was to be tailored to Cibicom’s specific needs, that required rather complex wiring and space optimization, including various intelligent solutions such as ethernet connected relays monitoring energy consumption. Due to the nature and scope of the project – and based on the many years of close and loyal partnership between Pro-Automatic and CUBIC, the CUBIC Modular System was the optimal match for the task.
Coping with multiple supply sources and space optimization
The customization options and adaptability of the CUBIC Modular System were ideal for facing the various challenges of placing busbars, with multiple supply sources as well as the need to optimize space to make room for the larger circuit breakers and an increased number of BUS bars. The two main switchboards were both 15 meters long, weighed 5 tons, with 8 individual sections that needed to be connected and installed. To minimize cobber wiring S2000HD and S2000D were used to branch out MCCB’s in both sides of S2000D.
Full monitoring and control
The circuit breakers were fitted with intelligent relays that measure power, voltage and effect and communicates with Cibicom’s monitoring systems via ethernet. These relays were fitted to provide full control over power use and energy optimization options – and ensures that any circuit breakers that are close to overloading can be dealt with in time to avoid shutdown.
Quick and easy service and maintenance.
To make it easy for engineers to navigate the panels during service or maintenance, the switchboards were fitted with MIMIC, that are essentially color-coded maps of the wiring, labeled on the outside lids. Blue for city power, black for generator power and orange for UPS power.
Uninterrupted power supply
Uninterrupted supply is ensured with an automatic generator controller from GSS Nødstrøm. In case of power failure from the power facility, the built in UPS will automatically take over while starting the emergency generator and switch to generator supply once it is fully up and running. When network power returns, the switch back to normal power supply is seamless and provides great insurance of power supply in case of power failure from the power facility.
